Informed Armenia project

This project seeks to ensure that journalists and civil society organisations produce and share easy-to-understand information, news articles and contributes to a real debate about budget allocations and spending in Armenia. Name of the sub-grant project: “Green Justice”

Brief Description:

The “Green Justice” initiation of the Public Awareness and Monitoring Centre NGO is aimed to restoring justice, revealing corruption, protecting the harmed interests of Dalma Orchards land users, and preserve the remaining part of the historical-cultural gardens.
It is anticipated through collecting information about Dalma Orchards, using mass-media and GIS tools and preparing investigative materials, to inform the public and journalists, address the possibility of protecting their rights, hereby contributing to the attention of the state officials to mistakes made by decision-makers and not to repeat them, especially in the context of environmental protection and in the context of establishment and protection of public interests.
There are several aspects in concerned matter that come from human rights basic principles, Armenia's international commitments and the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, e.g. to inform the public on environmental projects in the earliest stage of them, involve the public in the decision-making process, etc., aiming thereby to further the accountability of and transparency in decision-making and strengthen public support for decisions concerned to the environment.

Actions in Brief:

It is planned data collection via preparation of Information requests to Cadaster committee, Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Municipality of Yerevan, Government; Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Defense, to other stakeholders/authorities as needed, to review the legislative framework.
It is planned to Awareness raising activities on eco-rights, rights to information, etc., for land users and journalists after Outlining of the proposed corruption scheme. The results will be visualized via press conferences, press-tour to the Dalma Gardens’ areas, publishing investigative materials.
By the end of the project implementation period, it is planned to prepare 1-2 trial cases, as well as to prepare and submit proposals to both the Municipality of Yerevan and the Government.
